Thanksgiving Weekend @ the Sea of Galilee

Over Thanksgiving weekend we took the two-hour drive north to the Sea of Galilee. We stayed at Ein Gev - a hotel that has cabins on the lake shore. As a college student, this was our home base for almost two weeks as we explored Northern Israel and had classes on the shores of the lake.

Shelley had prepared a "to go" Thanksgiving dinner that we packed in the cooler. Once at our cabin, we warmed up the food and ate stuffing, turkey, cranberry sauce, carrots, and pie on the picnic table outside our room overlooking the lake. We introduced our kids to canned whipped cream with Shelley's first attempt at a pie - it was very good. Our kids so much enjoyed spraying on the whip cream that they said it was the "best Thanksgiving meal ever!" Had we known how easy it is to please them, we would have given them each a paper plate and a bottle of whip cream.

In Israel we met up with my high school friend from Israel, Efrat and her family. They took us to a water fall on the northern end of the lake. The kids enjoyed getting in the water and playing among the tall plants.

The lake has bike trails around most of the lake. If you magnify this picture enough, you might be able to see Andrew's tears - he is still warming up to the idea of riding bikes. Colin and Gaby, on the other hand, really enjoyed riding around part of the lake.

The history of this area is fascinating. The Golan Heights begin here and extend to the north.

This was what we listened to most of the drive back to Amman.
