Jaffa and Tel Aviv - Eid Holiday

During the four-day Eid (end of Ramadan) holiday, we took a road trip to Tel Aviv. We rented an apartment three blocks from the beach. It was a fun, relaxing break. Each day we had the same routine: we staked out a spot on the beach in the morning and then stayed there until the sun was going down.

We could not believe how obsessed the Israelis are with paddle ball. All along the beach there were hundreds of people playing paddle ball. I still have the sound of the balls hitting wooden paddles ringing in my ear.

On our way out of town, we stopped in Jaffa. Jaffa overlooks Tel Aviv. This city is one of the oldest port cities in the world.

The old city of Jaffa has many pathways and stairs that lead through a maze of lime stone houses and churches.

Andrew could not stop laughing at this statue of Napoleon. He thought it was funny that his short man stood there all day pointing at the historical sites.

This was one of the rare moments that our kids were not kicking or bothering each other.

This is a very picturesque mosque that overlooks the Mediterranean. One interesting observation: notice the Hamas flag defiantly waving from the minaret.
I avoid giving political commentary on this blog; however, this scene caught my attention because of its symbolism.
